Accommodation
Where you'll live in Malta
Accommodation shapes your experience (and your budget) more than any other decision. Here's what each option really costs in 2026, and who each one suits.
Host family (homestay)
≈ €150–250 / weekLive with a Maltese family, usually with breakfast and dinner included. Full immersion — you keep speaking English at the dinner table.
Best for: first-timers, younger students, fastest English progress
Student residence
≈ €150–320 / weekShared or private rooms in a dedicated student building. Social, international, and close to school. Some schools run their own residence a few minutes from class.
Best for: meeting people, independence with a safety net
Residential campus
school-specific packagesSome schools put classrooms and accommodation in one building or campus — with the pool, gym, and social areas included for students. You wake up where you study.
Best for: comfort seekers, short stays, everything-arranged packages
Shared apartment
≈ €300–600 / month per roomRent a room in a flat-share, independently or through the school. The cheapest way to stay long-term — and the most independent.
Best for: long stays, work & study students, tighter budgets
What areas cost (shared room, monthly, 2026 estimates)
Book through the school, or on your own?
Through the school
Guaranteed for your dates, quality-checked, walking distance or a short bus ride, and support if anything goes wrong. Costs a little more than DIY — worth it for your first stay.
On your own
Cheaper for stays of 3+ months, but Malta's rental market moves fast and scams targeting students exist. Only recommended once you're on the island — many long-stay students book 4 weeks via the school, then switch.
Quick questions
Can I change accommodation after arriving?
Yes — schools generally let you switch (subject to availability) with one or two weeks' notice. Many students upgrade or move to a flat-share after the first month.
Is accommodation included in my course price?
No — course and accommodation are priced separately. Your personalised quote itemises both, so you can compare and decide.
What's included in the price?
School-arranged options include utilities and weekly cleaning in most cases; host families include some meals. Independent rentals usually add €50–100/month for bills.
Which option gets me the discount?
The Maltalingo 20% discount applies to your course fees. Accommodation is charged at the school's standard rate — but we make sure your quote uses the school's own prices with no agency markup.
